In case you’ve been living under a rock, Robert Morris (the disgraced ex-pastor of Gateway Church in Texas) admitted to inappropriate sexual activity between him and a 12-year old child, Cindy Clemishire, when he was a 20-something pastor. This comes on the heels of Jim Cymbala’s good friend Tony Evan’s (another Dallas pastor) stepping down for moral failure.

According to Paul Brewer’s account, Jim Cymbala molested him when he was 7 years old. Paul’s account on this site is breathtaking and heartbreaking. Paul has since sued the church in an effort to find justice and hold Jim Cymbala and The Brooklyn Tabernacle accountable.
The other fact I find fascinating is that Robert Morris spoke about his past of cheating on his wife, finding vulnerable women, and taking advantage of them sexually. It’s something that he’s spoke about publicly. Now, Robert Morris left out the *minor* detail of her being 12; a fact that would come to change the backstory completely.
So back to ol’ Jim Cymbala. Jim Cymbala has a past too. Only, he never stopped his behavior. And it will be his past, his present, and his future terrible and ungodly decisions that will find him in the Zacahrias, Evans, Morris, Bickle, Hybels Hall of Shame.
When I read the lyrics of “He’s Been Faithful” I can’t help but hear a broken wife and a husband that just won’t keep his hands to himself.
